Frequently Asked Questions

When does the program start and end?

The program starts upon acceptance at the end of January and continues until November 2020.

Is bang. Prix a residency program?

The program is not a residency but a development program customized to each participant. i.e., If there is an event or meeting in Istanbul, or another city, that is suited to the participant’s development goals and interests, the travel will be scheduled and provided for that event/meeting only. The participant continues to live in his/her place of residence.

What funds are provided?

bang. Prix does not provide prize money to participants, instead we channel our funds to the logistics and arrangements required to allow participants attend the activities/meetings, and to provide exposure for their work according to their development needs and schedule as well as our budget.

So what is offered?

As the program is customized to each participant, the schedule, activities, opportunities and events will only be developed and confirmed upon acceptance.
Applicants may state the support that could be helpful to them in the Motivation Letter. Support for the development of participants’ practices and projects may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Mentorship
  • Know-how and skill development: workshops, seminars, conferences and trainings
  • Resources: books, digital libraries and databases
  • Network: opportunities to connect with experts in the fields of your interest
  • Exposure: exhibition(s), media coverage and sharing of your work and practice on international platforms
  • Project development: software program, production materials
What is expected of participants?

Participants are expected to communicate promptly and engage with the bang. Prix team regarding developments in their work throughout the program period. Activities and events will be scheduled to suit the participants’ needs and availability.

Does the program take place in Istanbul?

Our team is based in Istanbul, but the program is not. Our international network means that participants can expect to participate in an international programming of events and activities, as suited to their development needs and schedule.

Will my artworks be for sale in bang. Prix exhibitions?

bang. Prix remains a non-profit organization and takes no responsibility over sales of artwork. Should a work see a sales opportunity, the artist is welcome to proceed with bang. Prix taking no sales commission.

I have a project but have not found the funds to complete it. Can bang. Prix fund the production costs?

We believe in innovative and unique forms of support as opposed to direct grants, and abide by the principle of developing a practice rather than a sole project. Need for budget support will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis at later phases of the program.
