Free Fall
exhibited in: bang. Prix 2018
Criticizing the “good life” instead of engaging in endless discourses in the language and order imposed upon by singular structures can work to move us towards a clearer and more inclusive theory about our role in the construction of power and knowledge. The only way to counter this nothingness is by embracing existence. Free Fall is based on drawing attention to gender equality through data art. Over 50 years after the Civil Rights Act’s illegal recognition of gender discrimination, women – half of the population (49.7%) – must take part in the world. Today, 24% of the members in parliament are women, 82% of them have experienced psychological violence and 44% are in danger of extortion (UN WOMEN). One in three women are exposed to violence (33%), of which partner and family violence account for 71% (WHO). The rate of women’s participation in the economy, which is 45% globally, has fallen compared to the population growth in the charts in the last 20 years (WORLDBANK).
